The Dwelling Mindset: Motion without Movement
You are stuck in the Dwelling Mindset when you need to make a decision but spend all your energy thinking about the need to make a decision or worrying about the outcome. It is this consistent thinking or worrying about the need to make a decision and the outcome that drains so much energy. To add injury to insult after you spend all that energy thinking about the decision you need to make, you are no closer to making a great decision. Imagine you are running a race but at the starting line you start running in place and then when the race is close to finishing you actually start running forward - what a difference there is between running in place and running forward. This is why dwelling is “motion without movement” because you have exhausted yourself and end up exactly where you started.
Summed up, the bleak outcome of the Dwelling Mindset is:
Limited, if any, progress towards a desired outcome
Negative emotions starting with dread or worry about future negative outcomes that turns into frustration and surrender
Decreased energy coupled with increased pessimism of achieving a desired outcome
